Clytiomya continua <\/em>has been on the British list for quite some time and located in the North Essex \/ South Hertfordshire area. But it was recently joined by a very close cousin, Eliozeta pellucens<\/em>, which spread in from the east – starting in Norfolk and is now found as far west as Buckinghamshire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem is that the 2 genera are so similar that they can be very difficult to split in photos so I thought I’d put something together to help us all work them out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feature<\/strong><\/td>Clytiomya continua<\/strong><\/em><\/td>Eliozeta pellucens<\/strong><\/em><\/td><\/tr>
Katepisternal bristles<\/strong><\/td>2<\/td>3 (lower sometimes very thin)<\/td><\/tr>
Males: median hairs on tergites <\/strong><\/td>raised; >0.5x the marginal bristles<\/td>prone; any erect hairs <0.5x length of marginal bristles<\/td><\/tr>
Males: tergite 6 <\/strong><\/td>always hairy<\/td>usually bare or few hairs<\/td><\/tr>
Females: parafrontalia outside frontal bristles<\/strong><\/td>bare<\/td>hairy<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
