The Central European Key
An English translation of Hans-Peter Tschorsnig and Benno Herting's key to Central European Tachinidae. The original is excellent and our translation is an attempt to make it more accessible to english speakers, while doing justice to the original. The translated text includes a few modifications taken from an errata published after the original and I intend to incorporate further suppliments as Peter makes them available to me.
The key is available in two parts - both of which are in passworded ZIP format - the password is just so that we can record how many people are using it and ask for feedback - to obtain a password please .
I also recommend that you get hold of a copy of the original work (see bibliography) if only so that you can check for any inaccuracies in our translation!

Palearctic computer key
The next download is a computer key to the genera of Palearctic Tachinidae by Hans-Peter Tschorsnig. This key is the last hope for anyone with a heavily damaged specimen where important keying features (e.g. artistae) have been lost. The key works by asking the user a series of questions (you skip the ones you can't answer) and eliminating all those genera that fail - at the end you should be left with one genus, but this cannot be guaranteed.
